Families In Foreclosure Sometimes Lose Pets

Tennessee Foreclosure & Real Estate News

Reported by Amy Morrow

A growing number of foreclosures in the Tennessee Valley is forcing families to lose more than their homes.

They're losing their pets. The Hamilton County Humane Educational Society is taking in about 25 animals a week because their owners are finding themselves covered in debt, some victims of foreclosure.

Executive Director of the Humane Educational Society says, "It's had a tremendous effect on us not just foreclosures but people having to move out of their houses and and renting apartments to downsize to deal with the economy."

Another option, rescuers say consider Red Bank Pet Placement to help find you pet a home if you face surrendering your animal. The Humane Society also works hard to place animals who need a home. They take in about 30 to 40 dogs a day.
